How we manage your test results and what you need to know
If your doctor has reviewed your result and marked it as no action required, we will generally not contact you.
No call, SMS, or letter does not mean your result was normal it means your doctor has determined no further action is needed at this time.
We strongly encourage you to follow up all results directly with your doctor. Do not assume that no contact means no concern. You are always welcome to book an appointment to discuss any result.
If a result is abnormal or needs follow-up, we will contact you by phone, SMS, or letter. We may ask you to book a routine or urgent appointment.
Please note: reception and nursing staff cannot explain results, advise on borderline findings, or answer clinical questions over the phone. All clinical queries require a booked appointment with your doctor.
We may also ask you to:
If a result is urgent or serious, we will contact you as soon as possible including via your emergency contact if needed.
Do not wait for results if you feel very unwell. Call 000 or go to the nearest Emergency Department.
We cannot contact you about results we have not received. External providers, hospitals, specialists, imaging and pathology services do not always send results to us and we cannot guarantee receipt from all providers.
The onus is on you to follow up your own results in a timely manner. If you are expecting a result, or your doctor asked you to follow up please contact the provider who ordered the test, and contact us if you have not heard within a reasonable timeframe.
If a test was ordered by another doctor, hospital, or specialist, that provider is responsible for following up the result.
If a copy reaches us, we may review it as part of your ongoing care but this does not replace the ordering provider's responsibility. We recommend you proactively check your own results, as we cannot guarantee we will receive copies from all external providers.
To help us keep you safe, please make sure:
